How to choose the right conference room chairs
When it comes to planning a conference, the choice of chairs is incredibly important. Conference delegates will generally remain seated for long periods of time, sometimes even a full day; it is then imperative that he can feel comfortable. Typically a conference chair should represent a perfect balance between aesthetics, comfort and functionality. Read on for our tips on how to choose the right conference room chairs that can work for you.
The aesthetics of the chair is undoubtedly very important, however if it should not be the only decision factor at the time of purchase. The style of the chair must necessarily be in line with the furniture of the room in which it is used, in order to obtain an environment that is pleasant and harmonious as a whole. Its style can therefore be linear and essential or even be classic, but it must always be elegant. Even the choice of colors becomes fundamental in order to obtain a pleasant and attractive result. Some colors may be in tone with those present in the environment. Other colors such as those of the padding or seats might be quite lively in order to represent a touch of color and keep the attention of delegates alive.
2. Dimensions and space occupied by the chair.
The minimum amount of width space occupied by a chair without armrests must be 50cm, taking into account a further 5-10cm between chair and chair. These measures are sufficient to guarantee the individual both a certain comfort and the necessary intimacy; that is, it is necessary to avoid that the people seated may find themselves too close and that annoying embarrassments are created. The width of the chair and its depth are also fundamental for determining the number of seats that you want to have available in a room.
3. The comfort.
Considering that a conference can last several hours, it is essential that the chairs are comfortable. Indeed, it is unlikely that delegates will be able to concentrate fully on the conference speakers if they are distracted by the discomfort of sitting in an uncomfortable chair. A conference chair must first of all be ergonomic. The delegate must in fact be able to maintain a correct and ideal posture for his health and well-being. For this purpose, the chair must have an adequate backrest height, a sufficiently deep and slightly inclined seat, a backrest with lumbar support and possibly with an adjustable inclination. The armrests are also an important element, especially in situations where there is not the availability of a table on which to rest the elbows. Finally, in some specific cases, the chair can be equipped with wheels to be able to make small movements and rotations. The other element that greatly affects the comfort of the chair is the padding. Upholstered chairs, if properly designed and built, are able to cancel the stiffness of the seat, to follow the natural curvature of the spine and to guarantee adequate back support; in this way stress and tension will be minimized. However, it is important that the padding is not soft as this can worsen posture and cause various pain and discomfort. The upholstery materials of the padding must be breathable and pleasant to the touch; furthermore they must absolutely not procure excessive heat.
Stacking is a key feature for multipurpose rooms and flexible environments. The need is increasingly felt to be able to easily and quickly modify the arrangement and use of the chairs, according to the needs that may arise from time to time. In fact, the same chairs can be used for a plurality of events such as a conference, a meeting or a banquet. The stackable chairs are easy to move, transport and stow thanks to special trolleys; they also take up little storage space. In fact, our chairs stack up to 10 units on the floor and sometimes up to 40 units if placed on the trolley. The number of chairs that can be stacked basically depends on two types of stacking: frame stacking or seat stacking. Frame stacking ensures greater stability and safety of the stacks of chairs; moreover, it guarantees greater protection of padding and upholstery. Seat stacking, on the other hand, offers greater aesthetic advantages by having a cleaner and more elegant appearance. In any case, the stacking factor is generally the more important the greater the number of chairs to move.
It is appropriate that the chairs used for conferences in theater configuration can be linked to each other in order to maintain equidistance and alignment between them. In this way, even the various rows of chairs can be well aligned, leaving the passage between row and row free. This aspect is essential in terms of safety since, in the event of a fire, the individual chairs will not be able to tip over due to the panic that could occur. In fact, the current safety regulations require the chairs to always be hooked together in rooms approved for a minimum of 150 people. The best coupling system is the metal one, able to securely hook the chairs together and to be hidden from view when not in use.
6. Option of the writing tablet.
If delegates need to write, they should find a table in front of them. If, on the other hand, the room is full of chairs and there is no physical space to insert tables, then it is necessary to have chairs with writing tablet. The writing tablet must have a folding plate on which it is possible to place a sheet of paper in A4 format; moreover it is preferable, as regards safety in case of fire, that the plate has an anti-panic rotation mechanism. It is also very important that the writing tablet is detachable so that the chair can also be used for different functions, such as a meeting or a banquet or any other event.
The weight of the chair and more precisely the lightness of the chair is an important factor for the guest, who must be able to move the chair relatively easily and with one hand. It is also relevant for staff who often need to be able to move a large number of chairs quickly and with minimal effort. The lightest chairs are usually those that have a tubular aluminum frame or steel wire and a minimum weight of about 5kg.
The guest should be able to move the chair with relative ease. For this reason, the chair must be both light and easy to grip. A metal handle placed on the upper part of the backrest can undoubtedly facilitate the grip; moreover, it prevents the coating from being touched by hand, thus avoiding dirtying it. Maneuverability is also a relevant factor for the staff working in the multipurpose and modular rooms of hotels, who must be able to move, stack and transport hundreds of chairs quickly and almost daily. In fact, the same room can be configured for a conference, a wedding or a training course at a very short distance from each other.
9. Easy cleaning and maintenance.
The right chairs for conferences or meetings must be easy to clean and maintain, in order to safeguard the investment made for a very long time. For this purpose, surfaces must be resistant to most types of dirt or stains and be able to be maintained using non-aggressive tools and materials. This aspect should be taken into account in particular when choosing the covering of the upholstered pads. Among the various types of upholstery, eco-leathers are the easiest to clean and remove stains. It is also important that the individual components of the chair can be replaced with new ones in case of breakage or irreparable damage.
